Critters are a new type of collectible item, currently in the process of being introduced.
From the news post used to introduce them on February 27, 2014: Right now, they are not usable. I will make a thread to show off how they look fullsize so you guys can decide if you want to keep them, sell them or trade. They will be a new type of collectible. :)
Everyone will be given a gallery where you can show off all of the critters you have collected. We just have a few things to get done before we get the gallery released but I thought it might be fun to start collecting while we wait!

As of May 13, 2020, critters are now equippable! This news was celebrated with the release of the Antelot Biolumine.
