Stage pups refer to breedings that are done before the final design phase of a Custom breeding pair.

The creator breaks the design down into stages. The amount of stages depends on the dye markings needed and the creator’s choice. The first stage will be pups with the markings/mutations added during creation (may or may not include some dye markings.) The next stage(s) involve the addition of dye markings. Each dye marking in the design could be another stage. Stages end when the breeding pair have the final design.

If a marking on the design is available as a dye - the creator may breed the Custom breeding pair before dye(s) is applied to produce pups that are “unfinished” based upon the design. Markings cannot be removed - this adds value to stage pups as there is a limited amount of pups without those dyes. (These pups are wonderful for semi-customs.) Stages also provide variety for users who do not care for the final design.
