Dye projects. If you don't have a PayPal, and you want to be a successful user on the site, the two words "Dye" and "Project" are your new best friends. Of course, if you're patient (or lucky, as I was) you can try and save up for a token. But trust me, if you're a newbie, this isn't fun. So, to start, we use Dye Projects. Of course, this is not the same as a custom waja. It can be any gen you wish, and it can only have dye markings, although try to stay with the cheap-ish ones e.g. Lunar, Eye-Shadow, Giraffe etc. Dye projects are assumed to be extremely simple, and anyone could do it. It's not. Although it's not as expensive as buying a token, dye projects can be a nuisance. It takes a lot of work, patience time and WC.

Because customs are rather expensive with a starting price of 20 CWP for a token in the token shop, some users choose to use dyes to make a customized design on an existing waja. This is commonly called a "dye project".   Dye projects are often made on markingless wajas. However, many users choose to make dye projects by dyeing Wajas with existing non-dye markings, as this is the only way to incorporate token markings into the design.

Dye projects can be any generation, though if one is planning to sell pups from the dyed wajas it is best to work with lower generation wajas.
<br> 1. Let's start at the beginning! Buy/make a design, remember that the dye markings (or most of them) are in red on the custom demo.

<br> 2. Now you can go to "Shop Search" in a new tab (with your design on a different tab) and look for all of the prices on your dyes. This will give you an approximate idea of what you'll be spending.

<br> 3. You have your design. You have your price. Now, you'll need markingless wajas. Of course, in the color you want.

<br> 4. I can set up an interest check using an image from the custom demo. Once you get plenty of interest, set up a pre-sale. Remember! Pre-Sales aren't only for custom pups, they're for wajas you have to order to get.

<br> Welcome to the FAQ. I am here to help you with your dye project. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions, that I was stuck on when I was a newbie.

<br>Do parents pass on dye markings, or do you dye all pups too?

<br> Parents pass on dye markings. Re-Dying pups would make it extremely hard to do a dye project.

<br>Does each parent have to be the same breed, generation, and color?

<br> No, once you've checked a dominance list and you have made sure that the colors match. Although, if you can't get same-gen parents, try to keep it in gen2-3 area. If you can't afford that, it's OK, because I've seen dye projects gen6 or 7.

<br>How much would it cost if I kept all dyes under 1,000,000WC?

<br> Well, if you have 3-4 inexpensive dyes, around 6-7,000,000WC, including parents.

<br>I can't find a design. What should I do?

<br> There are several answers to this question. You should either make one yourself, commission someone to design one, wait until you see a nice waja in the Waja Search and use it for inspiration (don't copy it!) or wait until a dye design shop appears.

<br> If you're stuck and confused on different question, be sure to contact someone who knows the game well.

<br> Tips and Tricks

<br> Remember! Any nice ideas that pop into your head (like an awareness/memorial project) are always welcome.

<br> Variety! If you want variety, buy two different colored parents like red and yellow. Your pups will come out different shades of orange!

<br> Price! Price them from the dyes. If it contains Knives, and some more expensive dyes like ritual/dal, it could go up to the millions. If it contains giraffe, eye-shadow, lunar etc. it will be around 600k, depending on generation.

<br> Quality! Pear your parents, and then you will realize you get more value out of your love pear and more money out of the pups if they gain their parents' stats.

<br> Failure! It's OK to fail. If no-one likes your design, or finds it too expensive, look for advice on how you can patch it up, make it better. A cheap design could sell well too.

<br>Good Luck with your dye project, and I wish every kind of happiness!

Tips Regarding Dye Projects

 • When using the custom demo to come up with a design, keep in mind which markings are available as dyes and which aren't. Most dye markings are marked with an asterisk (*) and are in red when you try to select them in the demo. The exceptions to this are Skeleton, Classic Tabby, Mackerel Tabby, Stripe Dog, Bird Wing Tips, and Muzzle, which are available as dyes but are not marked as such in the demo.
 • When coming up with your design, be aware of the costs of the dyes involved. The price of a dye can be checked using the shop search (for both dye shop dyes and non-shop dyes, though dye shop dyes may be cheaper from the NPC shop than from the user shops). Dyes can vary wildly in price, with some being only a few hundred thousand WC while others are worth large amounts of CWP.
 • If you plan to sell pups from your project, aim for lower generation wajas as a starting point. Gen 2s are the ideal non-custom starting point, as there is still a reasonable market for Gen 3 wajas.
 • Creativity is important, so think outside the box; some very creative designs can be made using just dyes from the dye shop.
 • If you'd like feedback on your design, the "Design/Price Advice" board on the Forums is a good place to seek advice.
 • It is also possible to purchase a design from another user. Many users have "design shops" set up in the User Services board on the forums.
